By 1961, the ES-335 pickguard has changed to the shorter version, the knobs had changed to the reflector top versions, the Kluson tuners sport double-rings, and the serial number now appears stamped on the back of the peghead.
This particular example both a two-piece top and back, as you can see in one of the photos. Some guitars have one or the other, which is rare enough, but to have both is very rare.
The neck shape is somewhat slimmer than earlier examples, but retains the classic depth, unlike many late 1960 through 1962 examples. A very light example at only 7lbs. 7oz.
This one is from my own collection.
