This is a well-played, well-worn ES-335 with a Bigsby vibrato unit. Note the extreme wear where the players armpit would be. The guitar also shows some significant wear just above the pickguard and on the back.
This example has a relatively rare headstock stinger. This is the black painted area on the back of the headstock and is original. Stingers were used by Gibson, some speculate, to hide cosmetic flaws in the wood. Another example, a heel stinger, is on the 1959 ES-335TDN shown on this site.
Despite its hard life, this guitar is a particularly good sounding instrument.
This guitar is from my own collection.
